January 27th, 2019

United States Consulate General
Address of the Consulate

Dear Honorable Consul,

SAM SUNDAY- PASSPORT NO AO234567 AND JUNE SUNDAY – PASSPORT NO – A02343377

My name is David Sunday, and I reside at 4532 68th Street, New York, NY 12546. I am a United States citizen (or lawful permanent resident alien).

I am requesting that you issue a tourist (B-2) visa to my parents Mr Sam Sunday and Mrs June Sunday, in order to allow them to visit with me in the United States. I have not seen my parents in the last 4 years and I would like her to visit, this summer.

Mr and Mrs Sunday will be visiting with me from June 1st 2010 to June 30th 2010. This will be a great time because I will be off work at this time. During their stay in the United States, they will stay with me at my home at the address stated above.

I will be responsible for all of their accommodation expenses while they are in the United States. Upon the termination of their visit, I will personally ensure that they return to Accra, Ghana.

My Parents will be presenting this letter to you, together with other evidence to establish their close ties with Ghana, and to assure you that they will return prior to the expiration of their stay in the United States.

Your kind consideration to this request will be greatly appreciated.

Yours Truly,

David Sunday

Invitation Letter to Parents (Addressed to them)

In most cases, the above letter is sufficient. However, some people prefer to write a second letter that is addressed to the Parents. In my experience any one of these letter is good enough. However if you want to be double sure, you can send both letters.

I am american citizen and I have a friend in Algeria that wants to visit me here in the U.S – my question is where do I get an invitation letter form and after I obtain the letter for invitation where do I take it or where do I fill it – and do I need it notarized

Hi Anita! You don’t need a form! You simply write a letter on your computer similar to the one above and mail it to your friend with the relevant documents!

Your friend will need this kit to help them apply properly and reduce the chance of refusal!

      I hope this helps

I was reading that letter but the section that says scanned your green card or passport… My concerns is I’m in the process on changing my last name into my husband last name
I’ve not established the change of last name on my green card and my Cameroonian passport yet.. However my husband will be the writer and the sponsor for the invitation..
What are your advices on this..

She should not be sending the invitation letter to the embassy. She should send it to you with her data page and other documents.

      That ok Abimbola!
It is always better to have the original copies of the letter. However, I have done some invitations via scanned documents and the people were given the visa! The reason why this is so is this. An invitation letter is not a required document. It is simply one of the documents that make it easy to show your plans and intentions. So if you are able to get the original letter (signed with blue ink) couriered to you, then that will be great. If your interview date is too close and you can’t get the letter on time, print out a scanned copy. Should you choose to use the original copy, let your Aunt still send you a scanned copy as backup.

      Hi Anuoluwapo,

Yes you can invite both of them. Their chance of getting the visa is mostly dependent on them, more than on you. It will be quite difficult for your boyfriend to get the visa because he has to show that he will return to Nigeria after the delivery.

Yes you should mention the delivery at least for the invitation for your mum. I suggest you invite them on 2 separate letters.

There is no harm in trying though.

Hi Javier! The invitation letter is just one of the documents! The first step is for your parents fill out an application form for visitor visa and book an interview! They will then take the invitation letter with them for a visa interview at the us consulate in Cuba

Hello, I plan to go in USA on a visit and to use the maximum length of stay. I have also many friends there who can send me an invitation, so what is your suggestion, should one of them send me an invitation or I few of them to send me a letter because of the length of stay?
    Thank you!

    1. Dems Post author

      Hi Sandra,

It’s better when one person sends you a letter. You length of stay cannot be increased by the number of invitations you receive. What you should worry about mainly is how to show that you will return to your home country after your visit.

Thank you for response. And by the way, I have some more questions. First, my passport proves that I’ve been traveling and also, I’ve been to the States for 4 months until last December. So I am wondering if I should look for a special occasion listed in the invitation letter, or it could be only as a visit my friend? I was worried because I dont have some event that I want to attend or so… And also, yes, I can provide a document that I work in my country, but nothing else I have on my name as property etc, so I am not sure how strong that is… What do you think? And thanks again.
        Best regards,

          Hi Sandra,

The fact that you visited and you left the country is proof that you will leave again. This should not be much of a problem. Yes visiting is a good reason. However, you don’t want to look like you spend half of your year on vacation.

    Thanks.

      Hi Elisha,

She can send you a scanned copy of the letter. She can also send the original document via Fedex, DHL or any other courier service. This is quite expensive and in my opinion quite unnecessary. Regular mail would be good if you have some time to spare. We have used scanned invitations many times with positive results.

Hello, I would need an advise for how to invite both my granddaughters to visit me to the USA. I have an American passport since 2005. Both my granddaughters are from Bulgaria, but the oldest is a student in Scotland , and the youngest is in an art school in Bulgaria. Do they both need to apply for visa in the USA Embassy in Bulgaria, or the oldest one can do it in Scotland. Also-is there any other documents that I have to provide them with along with the invitation letter ?? Thank you in advance !!
    Sincerely,

      Hi Dora,

Your grand daughter in Scotland can apply from Scotland because she is studying there right now. Yes you would need to send them a scanned copy of the biodata page of your passport. If you would be paying for their trip then you would need to send them documents that show that you can afford to pay for their trip.

You can also visit this page for more on the documents that they would need.

    Hello

I am a permanent resident of US. I came here on F1 visa 4 years ago. I am planning to take my graduation walk this year so that my parents can attend. I have a little brother who goes to school in India. Do you think my brother being with them increases/decreases their chance of getting a tourist visa approved. I am planning to get invitation letter from my school for all three of them.

      Hi Punam,
I don’t think inviting your brother will affect the chances of your parents. As long as your parents can show that they will return to India after the visit.

    Hello,
I am a US citizen and I would like to invite a friend from Cuba to come visit. Her ties to the country are strong as she has elderly parents she takes care of so I do not think it will be a problem. I do not have a passport of my own. I can get one but I wanted to send the letter soon so I am wondering if there is any other form of identification I could send?
