Sample Invitation Letter for UK Visa written to a father

As a British Citizen or anyone who has an eligible status in the UK, you are entitled to have a guest visit you from different parts of the world. Many students come to the UK to study from all over the world, these students often need to have their parent or other relatives visit them. Find below a sample invitation letter written by a Naturalized British Citizen who wants his father to visit him in the UK.

Please take note that you can use the same format to invite a mother, uncle, brother, sister, grand parents. All you have to do is adjust the letter to reflect the different relationships. If your situation is different, simply state your case and let your guest present himself. In some cases you may mention something about your guest but that is not necessary. This letter is just a document that shows that your guest really has a reason to come to the UK.

The sample below is just one format for an invitation letter. There are very many other formats. You may choose to write the letter directly to your guest. In both cases however, it is your guest that you send the letter to.

Is there a diffrence between a sposorship declaration and invitatiin letter? Do we have to submit both? And if the visitor is soonsoring himself shall we mentiin that ! Thx

        Reply
        1. Admin Post author

Yes Nana there is a difference! In a sponsorship declaration you state that you will be responsible for the financial implications of the trip and show the proof! An invitation letter or sponsorship letter is just once asking your guest to visit you! Unless you are asked to submit two different documents, you can combine the two letters! You can invite and state that you will be responsible for the entire trip and that your bank statements are attached! If your guest is sponsoring themselves you can simply state that they will be sponsoring themselves or state what part you will be responsible for, like accommodation!

I am a female Filipino spouse of a British national. My husband is in the UK and is sick, while I am in the Philippines. He had been coming back and forth to the Philippines to visit me and we got married last June 19, 2015. However, after two months, the doctor saw some warning signs of cancer so my husband had to go back to the United Kingdom for medication. He has cancer of the skin (melanoma). I want to go and visit him in the UK. Can I possibly get a tourist visa for this purpose, for humanitarian reasons.

He says he can cover my expenses while I stay there and I can afford the plane tickets and also any other expenses I would have in my visit. What would be the best way for him to write an invitation letter and prove that we are on a true and genuine relationship? and how can i prove that I want to come back to my country after the 2 months? I work for an american company and is an online job so i work from home. I hope you can give me some advice. I would really appreciate it cause i am getting a bit nervous. Thank you.

I am a FILIPINO currently working in HK as Overseas Contract Worker, domestic helper. I just married a month ago, and my husband is in UK. I am planning to visit him this coming December 2015. While applying fot my Standard Visitor Visa, some of the questions mentioned on the application forms that we need to answer are:
      1. What is the cost to you personally of your trip in GBP?
      2. The total amount of money you have for this trip?
      3. The cost of the earoplane, boat or train tickets?
      4. The cost of your accommodation?
      5. The cost of your living expenses
      6. What is the total amount in GBP?
I am confusing how to answer it? And do I really need to answer those questions? even my husband is the one who is paying all my trip expenses?
What should I do? I really need your help and advice Mr Post Author. And thank you so much for helping us /sharing us, on how to write an invitation letter for a visitors visa. Keep up your good works, God Bless!

My partner recently lost his job and doesn’t have many concrete ties back to his country however I am his only tie to the UK and after the birth our plan is to return to his country as a family. Should I write a letter stating this and included a copy of my recently acquired work visa for his country and mention his son he already has in his country is this enough or what more would we need? Thanks

Then send her the letter/documents to which she takes to her local British embassy in Russia? To sit an interview for a visitors visa…..

I am applying for tourist visa to UK. My boyfriend’s dad wants to help me with the sponsorship letter required, however, I was wondering if you guys know if he can send all his papers separate from my application, I think he does not feel comfortable giving me all his bank statements, all his pay slips, etc. That information is too sensitive. My boyfriend lived with me in my country for one year and he just returned so he is looking for a job now and since he just arrived he has not got one yet. But I want to go and visit him during Christmas, does anyone have any clue if he can send the papers direct to the embassy? or do we HAVE to send all together? It is so frustrating, I forgot I have to have in my bank account loads of money per month without moving it and of course I cant do that every month. So my bank statements are not enough to show to the embassy to make them sure I can pay all while I am there. What should I do? Help

Is that true this invitation letter need home living situation, bills paid beside pays clips? My husband live in his mum flat but he have 2 jobs. I wanna ask that bills paid relative with home bills paid (like water, gas, electricty bills paid or bills paid which his own bills paid?, because he live in his mum flat and water, gas, electricity bills paid by his mum) so which one would be better use invitation letter by his mum or by him? His mum had pension already.

    Hi,
I want to bring my mother to the UK on a visitor visa for 5 months or so but I need some information and would appreciate your guidance. Below are my questions that need some answers to:
    1. I am in the process of writing an invitation letter to send, what should be mention in the letter?
    2. I am renting through the housing association with my partner and one child in a two bedroom flat, would I need a letter from them to send stating this and that I can accommodate her or should I send the tenancy agreement ?
    3. What documents would I need to send her other than the invitation letter?
    4. I heard stories that when bringing someone on a holiday that the person inviting them have to lodge down some money, £6000 or so at the Home Office in the UK to show that they can support them until they can return back to thre country. Is that true?

    Regards,
    Sabrina.

      Hi Grissel,

The invitation letter is just one of the documents you would need for the visa interview. If the dates available for interview are far off, then you can book for the interview before the letter is written. However, I suggest you find out the visa interview process in your country to know exactly what to do. It’s different from country to country.

Hi Susan, there is a possibility that the fiancee visa would work. However, only a consular officer has the power to determine that. What I would suggest is that as you build your relationship you both decide if you are ready to try it out. If this does not work out, he may need to come over to dubai.

I’m a UK citizen currently living in the UK. myself and my partner who is a Chinese citizen where hoping to go to the UK on holiday, i plan to introduce her to my family but her visa got rejected because they don’t believe are relationship is legit and my parents are willing to accommodate us. We are having trouble as i am unsure how to right the letter showing how i’m willing to support us both on are holiday and don’t have access to my UK accounts where one third of my funds are. I have payed for attractions in London and booked the hotel both of which where provided alongside a signed copy of my passport. My parents have given me a letter of invention but i believe it is very casual and are only communication is via facebook. I am extremely distressed as I have only one month of and can’t get a refund on the attractions and hotel. My family are all expecting us to visit them as i have been here for nearly two years and haven’t returned home since then. I’m not entirely sure how to write a letter proving are relationship is legitimate. I can provide a bank statement from my Chinese account but only a screen cap of my online UK account.

    Reply
    1. Dems Post author

Hi Adam, I can imagine your distress! The original problem is that you mentioned that she is your partner. If you had allowed her to apply on her own, she may have had a better chance (assuming that she has enough documentation to show that she will return to China after her visit).

As it is now, it is very difficult for her to receive the visa. No matter how you write the invitation letter, this will not change the situation. What you need is a way to prove that she must return to China after the visit.

You may need to go without her this time, document your relationship over the next couple of months (pictures and communication) and then try again.

I think once you have new documents you are eligible to apply again. It will cost you again though.

Yes you would need one. The statement is just to show your financial status. It doesn’t need to be fantastic. However, if you are being sponsored by your guest, theirs may play a bigger role. Remember that you need to show that you would return to your school after the visit.

Why doesn’t he contact an immigration officer to see if you can get a visa to stay with him as his primary care giver? On the other hand, you can ask to visit for a few weeks and then when you are in the country you can figure a way to extend your stay.

    Hi Admin,

Do i need to send her an invitation letter or if she is sponsoring her own trip then is it fine if she just provide a cover letter with details and accomodation details without my invitation letter. Problem is i stay in a shared accomodation and i cant give the tenancy aggrement and also she will not stay with me as we are planning for a trip to scotland. can you please provide me a sample cover letter or invitation letter for the same? Thanks

    Reply
    1. Dems Post author

      Hi Abhinav,

Yes she needs an invitation letter from you if she wants to state that she is coming to visit you in the uk. You can simply state that she would be staying at a hotel or with you. It is not compulsory to provide a tenancy agreement if you don’t have one. If you are planning a trip to Scotland, then you can state that as well and show the details.

Otherwise she can provide her travel plans without including you at all. In this case she would not need a letter from you.

as an example you could say:

During your visit, we would visit Scotland and ….. (fill in a few details).

Pls note that the invitation letter is not the most important document when it comes to obtaining a visa. Your GF’s documents that show her ties to India are more important. So don’t worry too much about the letter. As long as you have all the required info, you will be alright.

      Hi Seo,

Yes I can answer your questions.
      1) Yes you will need to show your financial statements as well.

You can visit this link to find out how and where to apply for the visa in your home country – https://www.gov.uk/apply-uk-visa

      2) The time between when you submit your application and when you get it depends on the country from which you are applying. Usually you can apply for upto 3 months before your travel date.

      3) If you follow the link for visa application, you should find all you need there. In my experience, most of the people I have helped have done it themselves directly. If however you know you are busy and would not be careful enough, you should get a service provider.

      I wish you the best.

So, maybe i misread something, but should it be printed and signed or written and signed.
Can I get a copy of it via mail? Or it’s better for my friend from Britain (Jersey) to send this letter (original) to me via standard mail?

      Hi Daniel,

It should be printed and signed. You can use a scanned copy in many countries but it is good if you can get a copy via standard mail.

        Hi Mandy,

You can apply for a visa with a hotel reservation and tourist itinerary. It helps to contact a tourism company in the uk if you have the budget.

Sir, in an instance where errors were made in filling parents year and date of birth in the online form and wrong declaration of relationship status i.e Married instead of Single in previous visit visa application which was refused. Does that have anything to do with decision/approval or granting visa for new application?

      Hi Dumi

So sorry to hear that you have not seen your seven year old boy in person. I would suggest that you go ahead with the application for standard visa. You have a chance of getting the visa if you have documentation to show that you have ties in your country that would make you want to go back after the visit.

You should also consider the visa for joining a family member. Read more about it here. https://www.gov.uk/join-family-in-uk/overview

Special thanks to the Admin(s) of this helpful website.
I’m Mike, a Nigerian but living in Ivory Coast. someone sent an invitation letter to me from Brazil. But instead of sending the letter to Ivory Coast, the letter was sent to Nigeria. However; I’ve the scanned copy of the letter in my mail box. Is it right to use the scanned one or must I go to Nigeria to get the one sent through DHL before I can be given a visa.

Another question I have is, how much is ideal to have in my bank account to get visa. It has been stated in the letter that my financial responsibility and accommodation are on the person inviting me for the period of one month that I’m to spend in Brazil.

I look forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks so much

You can use the scanned one. I have sent scanned copies a few times. If you have say double your ticket fees in your account you should be okay.

My girlfriend is coming as a general tourist and I booked flight and accommodation for her, she is a software engineer working in India but she is having two bank accounts one salary and one saving. Salary account is not holding balance but savings one has. Is it fine if she is giving both the bank statements to prove she can manage her expenses in U.K.?

she is coming as a tourist and she just mentioned about me as a friend in the cover letter whom she will meet. Do we need to give any proof of relationship? As she has not mentioned me as boyfriend rather just a friend. Sorry for the typo in the above comments but the documents that she is providing are:- Bank statement, payslips, letter from employer on employee status, leave approval letter, tax returns, travel and Accommodation details , cover letter stating her reason to come and when she will be back. Are these fine?

    Hi

I am a British citizen and am planning to sponsor my in-laws to come and visit my family for 2 months. They have another daughter living in the England as well as my father-in-law having a sister in England. When writing the sponsor/invitation letter, will it do any harm to mention that my in-laws have other family living in England. They will also be attending a family wedding. Again, it is worth mentioning this?

    Many thanks

      Hi Mitul,

There is no need to mention other members of the family. I do not think it will hurt them if you add the names of other family members who are legally in the UK to the invitation letter though. My thought is that the simpler the letter the better. The invitation letter is just to show the visa officer that the applicant has a purpose for visiting the UK.

As per the family wedding – my guess is as good as yours. I do not think it would strengthen the application in any way though. This is just my thought. I hope this helps.

Do I just need to write an invitation letter with all her details and my details, detailing that i am a house owner and work for xyz company for x number of years?
I take it she will have to apply for a visa at the British High Commission in Pakistan?

    Hi Admin,

The person inviting me (my boyfriend and his family) own their home so he does not have a tenancy agreement thus, the only support document in the letter would be a passport copy which seems too little information to provide. I was wondering what other types of documents could be useful for support when writing the invitation letter aside from the two you mentioned above?

    Thanks in advance!

    Hi Admin,
I am a hungarian woman and living in England more than 10 years now. I have a Mexican fiancée who currently lives in Cancun. We met on an online dating site and fall in love with each other. We are a couple about 15 months now. He visited me couple of times and I also visited him twice and spent there about 6 weeks with him. We decided that we want to live together. We was talking about this recently and I thought the best decision if he moves here as I can’t speak Spanish. I have a decent full time job, get paid above the avarge so I am more than capable to pay everything by myself while his visa request will be in process. (I read that somewhere he won’t be allowed to work while he is waiting for his visa). I was researching on internet and tried to find out what to do and how to do things but I am very confused now.
I am 35 years old, devorced and gone through some really tough times but I can tell that I never been happier than with him right now.
Could you please help me cause I am not sure what documents I need to provide and what sort of letter I need to write? Do I have any chance to get him here?
    Thanks for your help.
    Kind regards

      Hi Bernadette,
The good news for you is that your fiancé can come to the uk.

I’m not an immigration lawyer! I’m just helping people who need simple solutions. My suggestions are just my suggestions.

      Here are my suggestions!
      1) It looks like you want to Marry this guy! I pray he is as great as you say! Then the way forward would be to marry him in the uk.

      2) Get an immigration lawyer to help with the process of bringing him over to leave in the uk. They do this a lot and they know what to do.

      3) find a lawyer before you get married.

      4) it will help you if he has some assets too!

He can send you a simple invitation letter. It doesn’t matter that the passport is expired if it is a British passport.

What is important is that he shows that he is legal in the uk.
