Immigration Letter of Employment

Last updated on

In order to access immigrant-based visas or permanent residency in the United States, you may need to show proof that you are employed with an organization and that organization must indicate key attributes of your employment such as your position and pay.

You do this by presenting a letter of employment from your employer, verifying that you are an employee of the organization, that you have been performing the relevant job duties in line with your job title. The letter must also state when you started working with the company organization as well as your salary specifications.

The employment verification letter should be original and printed on company letterhead. The letter should be signed by your supervisor, human resource person, or some other Senior Management personnel qualified to undertake same, and should include a contact phone number.

The letter should state the following: starting date with the company, current employment status (full time, part time, contract, etc.), position title, annual salary or hourly wage. If you are paid by the hour, you should convert that to an annual salary.

Here is a sample letter you can present to your Employer. Again, be sure to have your letter on company letterhead.

Visitor’s Medical Insurance (USA)

Last updated on

What is visitor’s medical insurance?

Visitor medical insurance is a type of short-term travel health insurance policy that visitors to any country purchase to get coverage protection for accidental injury or sickness or illness that occurs during their stay in the host country. Travel medical insurance offers health coverage for relatives or parents visiting USA, or for travel protection to visit any country for any reason, business or personal. This type of private health coverage for visitors is purchased as a short term health plan that provides medical coverage beyond national borders, and only for the duration of travel or stay outside home country.

When should I purchase the insurance?

Medical treatment in the US is very expensive. If there are any pre-existing conditions that require treatment, the full cost of the treatment may become your responsibility. It is advised to purchase the insurance before departing your home country to make sure you will be covered during your travels.

Why buy insurance?

Each year, the United States hosts millions of foreign visitors from all over the world. While the United States healthcare system is recognized as one of the best in the world, potential out-of-pocket expenses that could result from an injury or sickness during your visitor’s visit to the United States could be outrageous. Healthcare costs are different in the United States than any other country around the world.  For instance, it cost $42,000 for a four day hospital stay to treat a 12 year-old girl who caught pneumonia on a school trip. The travel insurer also paid for the cost of flying out a member of the family to be with her. This is why foreign national visiting the United States of America require VISITORS medical insurance to protect them and their family!

What types of plans are there?

You can either by limited plans which cover basics and are low-cost or buy comprehensive coverage plans. Comprehensive coverage plans typically offer more benefits than basic plans, and also offer coverage for acute onset of pre-existing conditions.

Choosing the best plan for your visitor

Depending on who is visiting and what activities you’ll be doing, you will need to look at your different options. For example, an elderly person visiting for pleasure trip will need a different cover than a young person visiting for a business conference.

Keep in mind

Many times when buying health insurance, especially for visitors, we tend to look for the cheapest possible option. Your visitors won’t stay in the US that long right, what could possibly go wrong? Or so we tend to think. Keep in mind that the cheapest options will not cover certain procedures or medication. So in the event that a loved one does fall sick, and you would like to upgrade to a wider coverage plan, take note that that new plan will classify the current illness as a pre-existing condition, meaning the insurance will not cover that ailment. It’s therefore better to stick with the initial plan, even if it’s limited.

It is not entirely possible to predict whether a person will fall ill or not, but you can ask the following questions to determine whether it is better they visit or hold off, and you visit them instead. Ask them if they have any pre-existing conditions. Ask if they’ve had a check-up recently and the results of that, and whether or not they are on medication, and how much of it they can bring over with them.

In addition to preexisting conditions, other things not covered by visitors’ insurance is maternity care, childbirth, preventative care (immunizations, regular check-ups, physical exams, etc.), prescription eye exams and glasses, cosmetic procedures, and dental work not related to an accident/emergency.

How do you know which insurance companies are better?

When deciding where to purchase visitors insurance, you should look at things like the Insurance agency’s reputation, their price options, how big their network coverage is, that is which hospitals are supported under the coverage, and customer feedback.

So which insurance companies should I buy from?

There are several companies who offer visitor’s health insurance packages. There are also other plan like Atlas America, Patriot America etc, that does a good job of offering custom plans for foreigners visiting USA. For elderly folks, most plans cover pre-existing conditions, offer emergency services etc. One such plan that goes a really good job of offering a custom plan for elder folks is Choice America Gold.

Atlas America.

Atlas America has a wide option to choose from and covers new immigrants, business travelers, students, short visits, etc. whatever your reason for travel, they have an insurance plan for you. Atlas Travel insurance covers most potential disasters and even offers emergency medical evacuation if the need arises. It covers for lost baggage and has various other packages. They have the largest network of PPO providers and have good admin/customer care support. They also cover partially acute onset of pre-existing condition (only a handful providers cover these). You can choose from a variety of options, on their website at

Patriot America

Patriot America provides Visitor medical Insurance for visitors to USA, travelers, tourists, new immigrants, international students, expats. relatives, or parents visiting USA. They have different medical Insurance plans available to meet your specific travel insurance needs and provide up to USD $2,000,000 ($2 million US Dollar) protection benefits of maximum medical coverage limit.

Visit their website for more information at

Cover America Gold-

This plan was recently launched on December 5th 2017 and has easily become a favorite for the elderly. The reason? It’s gotten rid of all the unnecessary frills that comes with most travel insurance plans and offers just the right features needed for elderly folks. It comes with a great coverage (100% payment after deductible), emergency and urgent care, cheaper co-pay, extensive PPO network, dental and eye urgent care, up to 79 years coverage, acute on-set of pre-existing conditions coverage, amusement park/cruise cover etc. you can look them up at

Choice America

This is short term plan and doesn’t come with unnecessary features that you won’t use. Choice America is a limited coverage travel insurance plan that is primarily built for parents visiting USA. It has features like coverage for common pre-existing conditions even for occurrence during visit.

How much will it cost?

You can expect to spend within the range of $400- $500. Some plans may be way cheaper or more expensive depending on your preferences and the options the company makes available.

Green card lottery

Last updated on

Green card lottery (what it is and how you can enter)

What is a green card?

Having a green card is an informal way of saying you have United States lawful permanent residency. It is the immigration status of a person authorized to live and work in the United States permanently. The name green card came about from the color of the forms that were filled for immigration status. The name has stuck since then.

How long is it valid for?

Green cards are valid for 10 years for permanent residents. After this period, the card must be renewed or replaced. The full application process, from start to finish (that is from the time you submit your application to the time you are granted a green card) may take several years.

What is the green card lottery?

The United States has a generous visa lottery platform where around 50,000 immigrant visas are made available through the Diversity Visa (DV) program, also known as the Green Card Lottery to people who were born in countries with low rates of immigration to the United States (fewer than 50,000 immigrants in the past five years). If you are selected under this lottery you will be given the opportunity to apply for permanent residence. You can also file for your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21.

For this year- 2018, the Green Card Lottery Program is called DV-2020; 2020 being the year successful applicants may enter the United States on the green card they won. It is now open to all individuals worldwide who meet two basic entry requirements. The Program makes Permanent Resident Cards available to the winners, authorizing the winners and their families to live, study and work in the United States of America as permanent residents.

The DV Program is based on random selection among all entries to individuals who are from countries with low rates of immigration to the United States. It is administered by the U.S. Department of State (DOS).

Most lottery winners reside outside the United States and immigrate through consular processing and issuance of an immigrant visa.

To apply for a diversity visa, follow the steps on the Diversity Visa Process on

Are you eligible?

To be Eligible to enter the Green Card Lottery you must be a native of a qualifying country. You must be a foreign citizen or national not born in the United States of America, from a country with a low immigration rate to the United States. People born in countries with high US immigration are excluded from this immigration program. The following countries are excluded from the DV2020 program:

Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (mainland only), Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Haiti, India. Others are Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Peru, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland), and Vietnam.

How to Apply

Firstly, confirm that you are from one of the qualifying countries.

Log onto the site, follow the prompts “Immigrate” and proceed to create an account.

Once you confirm your account, fill in the required information and upload photos of yourself and any co-applicants. You may apply for your spouse and any unmarried children under the age of 21. Submit your application and check online periodically. You can visit the Department of State’s website to check your status at  Lottery winners are notified by the US Government by mail and email.

What happens if I get it?

If you are selected in the lottery, you can then begin the immigrant visa application process. If you live outside the U.S. will need to file applications for immigrant visas at your U.S. Embassies or Consulates. Once your immigrant visa applications are approved, you will be scheduled visa interviews. If all goes well and you are eligible for legal permanent resident status in the U.S., immigrant visas will be issued to you (and your family, if applicable) these visas must be “activated” within six months of issuance at any port of entry to the United States. That means you will have to move to the United within that timeframe.

Watch out for frauds

Applicants are advised to use only official U.S. government websites, in which the URL ends in .gov. and to never send money to anyone who sends you a letter or email claiming you have won the lottery. Fraudulent green card lottery scams have risen over the years, to take advantage of innocent applicants who genuinely wish to emigrate to the U.S. False agents take money from applicants by promising to submit application forms for them. Most agents are not working for the distribution service. Some claim that they can increase your chances of winning the lottery. These claims are false and may in fact delay or not submit your application.

Some agents may claim to provide winners free airline tickets or other benefits, such as submissions in future years or cash funds. Beware of any and all fraudulent claims.

Take Note

If you ever want to visit the United States as a visitor or with a non-immigrant visa, entering the green card lottery could make that more difficult. When you apply for a U.S. non-immigrant visa, you generally must prove your non-immigrant intent. That is, you intend to return to your home country. But by entering the green card lottery, you are indicating your desire to immigrate to the United States. If you later on decide that you would like to visit the U.S. and apply for a travel or student visa, you must disclose your participation in the green card lottery. The results of the lottery don’t matter. The problem that arises is that you have expressed interest in immigrating to the U.S. This will likely be taken into account by a consular officer when making a determination on a non-immigrant visa. Participation in the lottery will not automatically bar you issuance of a non-immigrant visa, but your application will be scrutinized more closely.

Super Visa Insurance

Last updated on

Whether it is for your home, car, pet or life; we have come to learn – especially through devastatingly painful real-life situations, that insurance is no luxury. If anything, it may just be as important as your need to acquire basic necessities.

But the option of negotiation is completely out of the question where a Super Visa is concerned. So what do you do when you are stuck between a rock and a hard place;  what if Super Visa Insurance like, yesterday?

Tips for Buying the Best Super Visa Insurance

You might get lost in the haze of options; when in search of the best Super Visa Insurance. Especially with the various policies, you might have to wade through to find the best option available for your situation; So, here are a few quick tips to get you in and out quickly;

  • Investigate about Super Visa Insurance Providers:

As the rule is for just about everything else; first-hand information on any subject is your best bet at getting anything done right. So do a little home work; maybe even request some quotes online and over the phone, and then compare the coverage prices available to you. But make sure that the quotes aren’t all that you’re looking at when you make a purchase.  Do well to do a comparison of the policies as well to see which works best for you.

  • Get Referrals :

Remember how the customer is always right? Well, they are also always the most reliable source of information as well. So, don’t restrict yourself to just the providers and their agents; ask other Super Visa Insurance users who they recommend.

  • Tell-All:

The worse mistake you can possibly make in life – besides lying to your lawyer and doctor; is to lie to your insurance broker or service provider. This is just as important as asking the right questions; make sure to let your insurance agent know every detail about your trip; include your past health history and any risky activities you want to enagage in.

  • Coverage Over Cost:

While it helps to compare rates so that you can pick one that won’t be too much of a rip-off; also remember that you only get what you pay for. So if you need to pay a premium for a quality coverage – well, you only live once.

  • Insure As Many as You Can at Once:

If both parents and/or grandparents are traveling all at once; it may help the cost to insure them all at once. And even if it doesn’t, it helps to lighten the paper work, so why not?

Grammarly Review – A tool I now use daily

Last updated on

GRAMMARLY – This Grammar check tool has become indispensable!

I first saw Grammarly as an advert on another website. At first, I wondered if it I could afford to install another plugin for my chrome browser. On second thoughts I decided to give it a spin. Wow!!! I am so glad I did. Since then I have introduced it to my wife and other friends. I have also instructed the people that work with me to make sure they have Grammarly installed.

In summary, for those who English is not their first language, Grammarly is a must-have. It does not just correct spelling mistakes, it corrects your grammar. For example, if you want to say “I read four books last month” and you mistakenly write “I red four books last month”, Grammarly would underline “red” to draw you attention to your error. How cool is that? That is not all. It can do more than that. It can also correct punctuation.

Like I said earlier, I literally stumbled onto Grammarly – not that I didn’t need a grammar/spell check program, but I wasn’t actively looking for one when it showed up as an ad, and after a good look at its perks and terms, I figured – I’ve got nothing to lose!

Well, approximately one month into my journey with Grammarly here’s my take on the program. I am an affiliate of this program. I use it and I recommend it highly, my suggestion is that you try it for FREE and decide for yourself. I am sure you would be glad you downloaded it.

But first,

What Does Grammarly Really Do?

The idea behind Grammarly is that  it flags up errors as you type posts in LinkedIn, WordPress, Tumblr, Gmail, Facebook and other platforms – and depending on whether or not you are willing to download the free browser extension that applies for it, it would also flag up errors in Ms Word or alternatively, documents can be uploaded or copied and pasted on your account and reviewed as well and when the Grammarly software finds a grammar mistake, it provides a detailed flash card with explanations and examples of how to improve the sentence.

Another useful accompanying feature in Grammarly is the plagiarism-detection tool; which is ideal for teachers and editors who suspect that their students or writers may have turned in copied material, and a comprehensive dictionary and thesaurus that writers can access anytime – and by simply highlighting a word you are provided with a contextual list of synonyms that could translate your writing to the next level.

How Much Does Grammarly Cost?

It’s free!

Okay, not entirely.

Grammarly offers two different packages – one is the free version and the other a premium version that is accompanied by additional features.

Using the free version entitles you to review of 100 points of free grammar, contextual spelling and punctuation errors – this does not include any features for vocabulary enhancement at all. And although it is free, it can be used anywhere on the web with Google Chrome, Mozilla or Safari browser.

The free version will help you get started immediately. You would get more than enough benefits from just using the free version. If you need more there is always more.

The Premium version includes (along with the features of the free version) 100+ additional advanced grammar and spelling checks, vocabulary enhancement suggestions, Genre-specific writing style checks and the plagiarism detector.

What to Love About Grammarly

I installed Grammarly on my computer and enabled its web browser plugins, and it proved beyond reasonable doubt that when it comes to detecting spelling, grammar and punctuation errors, the software clearly leads the pack.

It flags everything from a passive voice to commonly confused words and makes suggestions for corrections in sentence structure and punctuations in no more than a few seconds.

I suppose the most impressive thing about Grammarly is that it doesn’t flag any errors without providing accompanying reasons. The flashcards provided explain why each error was flagged as incorrect and the most likely alternatives to correct the errors. Not only does the approach elevate the writing of the user, it helps to further educate and strengthen future writing.

Grammarly also recognizes that different documents have different levels of formality, thus reviews are done specifically to the tone of the document concerned – and the ideals of emails, social media updates, blog posts, official documents, academic and technical documents were considered during the software’s design.

And to top things off, you can very easily switch from American to British English by simply clicking on the Grammarly logo and navigating to your profile.

If you are on my website because you are looking to write an invitation letter for someone, and you do not have Grammarly, then download it right now. You will be glad you did.

This means that if you plan to visit the USA from July 1st – July 30th, then your passport should be valid till at least December of that year. If you have Old Passports with visas on them, carry them along with you to the interview.
  2. Nonimmigrant Visa Application, Form DS-160 confirmation page – When you fill out the DS-160, you get a confirmation page at the end of the process. You will need to print a copy of it and bring it with you to your visa interview.

Supporting documents required for US visitor visa – B1 / B2documents required for US visitor visa or tourist visa

In addition to the mandatory documents, you may also need some documents to support the claims you made in your application form. Here are some of the documents you may need to prepare. Documents that show the following:

  • The purpose of your trip – Although an invitation letter is not mandatory, it is a good document to show the purpose of your trip. If you are going to visit a friend or family, a letter from them is an obvious proof of the purpose of your trip. You may also prepare a document from a tourism company showing the list of places you plan on visiting. A booking of the hotels or places you plan on staying (DO NOT MAKE PAYMENTS to these hotels).
  • Your intent to depart the United States after your trip – These are documents that show your ties to your home country. Birth certificates of your children, Letters from your employer showing that you are on vacation and all other documents that shows that you plan on returning to your home country immediately after your visit to the USA.
  • Your ability to pay all costs of the trip – You should prepare your bank statement, pay slips and business documents to show that you have the ability to pay for the trip. If you will be sponsored partially or fully by your host, then you will need those documents from your host. Take note however that if you are being fully sponsored, it will be difficult for you to show that you will return to your home country after your visit.

How do I know which Document to take to the visa interview or not?

The rule of thumb is to take all documents that you think will be helpful to you. However do not bring out any document that the visa officer does not ask for. If you volunteer too much information, you may not have documents on you to support those claims. Now that you know the documents required for a US tourist visa, you can start preparing.

How to get a US Visa without Invitation Letter

Last updated on

Visiting the US? No invitation letter necessary

Are you planning visit the USA as a tourist, and you do not have an invitation letter? You can apply for a B2 (tourist) Visa without having someone in the USA to send you an invitation letter. We have created a guide that will take you through the entire process of getting a visa without an invitation letter. Although procedures vary in different embassies and consulates, there are a few processes that you need to go through to get a visa.

The Invitation Letter for Visa is not Required

It should be noted that when you are applying for a non – immigrant visa, you will never be asked to show your invitation letter. Therefore, you should not be worrying, because your application won’t be refused if you do not have an invitation letter. There are other more important documents than this letter that you must have with you. Here is what the USA visa office has to say about the invitation letter.

US Consulate on Invitations

Here is the whole process of getting a US visa without an invitation letter

Everyone who wants to enter the USA as a tourist, must apply for a visitor visa. This can easily be done at every U.S Embassy or Consulate around the world. Visit the place and they will provide you with the necessary information.

What documents do you need to get a visitor visa?

First of all, you will need some evidence of a financial support. You will be asked to show the appropriate documentation where the authorities can see that you have enough finances to support yourself during your stay in the USA. A bank statement that shows your current balance would be enough.

Filling out the application form is another important part of the process. You can do this online, or you can go to the USA Embassy in your country and ask for an application form. Once you fill it out, you must provide a suitable photo of yourself which is part of the application documentation. The photos must be in color, taken within the last few months on a white background with your face facing the camera.

Once you are done with the application, you must provide an evidence that shows that you will go back home to your country. Most of the applications get denied simply because the applicants do not submit an evidence of ties to the home country.

Visa Interview

Now, it is time to schedule a meeting with a consular officer of the USA Embassy in your country. Do not forget to take all the documents with you on the day of the interview. During the interview, the consular officer will determine whether or not you are eligible to get a US visa and if you are, they will approve it within the next few days or immediately (it depends from the country you live in).  Once you get an approval, they will give you instructions on how you can get the necessary documents along with the visa. The length to stay will be determined by the officer, but if you are visiting for the first time, you won’t be allowed to stay longer than six months.
